Evening happenenings

Recently I've been more and more annoyed by the fact that linux doesn't have some sort of auto-network-selection thing. Specifically, what I'd like is some applet to switch between wired and wireless and select the best wireless network (depending on work, home, etc).

So eventually last night I found NetworkManager, which seemed to advertise everything I ever wanted. It might even work, too, if I didn't use ndiswrapper.

Eventually I found a thread talking about these problems, and a supposed solution, but I wasn't able to get this patch to apply. Probably a copy/paste problem; so I'll probably try to apply the patch manually sometime soon. If this stuff worked, it would make the job of switching networks much, much easier.
