And then the drive goes

The latest bit of fun is the 40G drive (that was in the computer that went poof and is probably over 5 years old) is now dying/dead.

# smartctl -a /dev/hdasmartctl version 5.36 [x86_64-redhat-linux-gnu] Copyright (C) 2002-6 Bruce AllenHome page is http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net/=== START OF INFORMATION SECTION ===Model Family:     Maxtor DiamondMax Plus D740X familyDevice Model:     MAXTOR 6L040J2Serial Number:    662125740930Firmware Version: A93.0300User Capacity:    40,027,029,504 bytes[..snip..]SMART Self-test log structure revision number 1Num  Test_Description    Status                  Remaining  LifeTime(hours)  LBA_of_first_error# 1  Extended offline    Completed: servo/seek failure 90%     33265         76972237

Servo failure? nice.

# smartctl -s on -a /dev/hda[..snip..]=== START OF ENABLE/DISABLE COMMANDS SECTION ===Error SMART Enable failed: Input/output errorSmartctl: SMART Enable Failed.A mandatory SMART command failed: exiting. To continue, add one or more '-T permissive' options.

Oh? now smart commands don't even work?

# tail /var/log/messages-bash: /usr/bin/tail: Input/output error

Oh - and I can't access some files on the filesystem. I guess this drive is dead.
