Perspective

Ah .. the blogger returns! At first, you might think I'm referring to some other recent life happenings, but there's a lot more than that.

Life at PA.net was good. I didn't really like where the owners of the company where going (or not going, actually) but the work was lots of fun and it was a great environment for learning.

Life at Express Dynamics is a little different. I've definitely gained some perspective (hah! there's the hook!) about what life is like outside the I.T. world. I've gained experience in both the software engineering field and about what life is like at a startup. While I've gained a lot of experience in object oriented programming and working with PHP5, I've also learned that I don't want to be a software engineer. Work can also be extremely frustrating as there's a lot of time spent fixing bugs that I don't create while still meeting deadlines that I typically don't know about. I'm also not too fond about being mislead about their expected timeline to launch, even though they had no clue about how long it would really take (Jan '06 when I started in November 2005 - looks more like Jan '07 now).

I've been fishing for jobs for awhile now, and while I have heard from Google and Vonage those didn't pan out since Tiff and I weren't willing to relocate that far away from the area. I've got a couple feelers out to some other local companies, but there's nothing there that looks like it might pan out in the near future.

Tiff and I are heading away to Lake Raystown from Wednesday to Sunday inclusive. It'll be nice to get away for a good five days and not be able to worry about work at all (or be able to worry about work at all ;-). I'm sure we'll have a lot to talk about, and it'll be good to be around family.
